  • Biography:
I am a locum consultant Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgeon. I am originally from Kenya and have completed my education in Kenya, South Africa and the UK. I was awarded first class honours for my intercalated BSc in Cell Physiology and Pharmacology, which I undertook whilst completing my medical training at the University of Leicester. I secured a national specialist training number in 2014 and in addition to this I was awarded a competitive National Institute of Healthcare Research Academic Clinical Fellow position. My research focused on micro RNA changes in patients with oesophageal cancer treated with intravenous omega 3 and was conducted in collaboration with the Molecular Medicine Research Center, Chang Gung University, Taipei, Taiwan.

I was awarded my Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2017 for my thesis entitled: “A pilot study investigating specific immune regulatory cells and microRNA in patients with advanced Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma treated with intravenous omega-3 fish oil infusion and Gemcitabine” under the guidance of Professor Ashley Dennison. I was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2021 and I have completed a transplant placement in Cambridge which hosts the largest and only comprehensive adult multi-organ transplant programme in the UK.

I am currently an East Midlands Clinical Senate Leadership and Management Fellow. As part of this role, I actively participated in senate reviews, reorganisation, and commissioning group tasks and clinical advisory groups. In addition as part of my fellowship, I am completing a proactive review into the barriers to implementation to Artificial Intelligence in the Midlands, which will highlight the local issues with Artificial Intelligence implementation and provide a framework for local adoption and integration. I am a lecturer at the University of Leicester and I am passionate about teaching and have partaken in various teaching courses and workshops throughout my career. I have initiated several novel teaching schemes across a spectrum of clinical disciplines with excellent feedback that have been subsequently published. I have published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and have one book chapter and in addition, I have presented extensively at international, national, and regional conferences. I am committed to quality improvement with extensive experience of audit. I have been awarded several prizes and I have recently been awarded the prestigious 2021 ASGBI and Pancreas Cancer UK national traveling fellowship that will support my visit to two international units to learn advanced HPB skills and I will bring back innovative and advanced skills to the Leicester population.
