Professor Chang and her department collaborate with numerous international research departments. Since 1987, the major research interest of Professor Chang is to understand the role of Epstein-Barr virus in the development of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) focusing on the pathological effects and its clinical usage.

Professor Chang received several awards include distinguished Research Awards from Ministry of Science and Technology (2002, 2010, 2014), Outstanding Research Awards from CGU (2010, 2014), Outstanding Technology Development and Industry Liaison CGU (2012), Chair Professor, CGU (2014), The 19th Distinguished Alumni Award (2015), National Chung Hsing University, and The 25th Min-Ning Wang Award in Basic Science Research Achievements contributing to Medical Technology Development, National Health and Welfare, and Society (2015).

Professor Chang has numerous International collaborations related to cancer biomarkers, including: 1) The first team from Taiwan to join the International Cancer Biomarker Consortium, led by Professor Leland Hartwell, 2001 Noble laurate in medicine or physiology. 2) As a member (Chang Gung University NPC team) in the International Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Working Group with other teams from National Cancer Institute (USA, group leader), National Taiwan University (NCI/Taiwan), Chung-Shan University (China), Singapore, & Malaysia. 3) As an International Partner of Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC), National Cancer Institute, USA. 4) Collaboration with MD Anderson Cancer Center on Bioinformatic analysis of oral cancer genomes.

Professor Chang has also research fields with impacts on Health and Welfare of Taiwan including: 1) Executing the Cancer Biomarker program in Molecular Medicine Research Center for the Top Universities and Research Centers project. 2) Participating in Cancer Screening program of the Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taiwan for early detection of oral squamous cell carcinoma and colorectal cancer.

In the past 10 years, Professor Chang has extended her research to search for NPC biomarkers that can be used for detection, prognosis and treatment. At the same period of time, she expanded her work to other cancers like CRC and OSCC with same goals: translating basic research results to clinical application.
