Team HPB 2016
Leicester to Hunstanton Charity Bike Ride 2016

This year’s fourth Leicester HPB Unit’s charity bike ride for Pancreatic & Liver cancer research has been successfully completed. The numbers of cyclists taking part in this challenge has increased year on year. The cycling event over the years has helped to raise over a £100,000 which has been invested directly into the units pancreatic and liver cancer research which support research that benefits patients locally in Leicestershire and all over the UK as well.

This year’s cycling team consisting of 56 cyclists and 26 support crew completed a 100 mile cycling challenge from Leicester to Hunstanton on Saturday 18th June and thankfully without any casualties this year!

The team of cyclists consisted of surgeons, research doctors, scientists, specialist nurses, matrons, anaesthetists, patients, ward and theatre staff, senior hospital managers, General Practitioners, practice nurses, relatives, family, friends and colleagues from the pharmaceutical industry. On top of the bike ride, the team have also held a cake sale at the hospital as well as selling raffle tickets to help increase funds.

The Leicester HPB unit needed to find ways of raising money themselves to ensure that their vital research work can continue hence the annual charity bike ride. To enter the event each cyclist had to raise a minimum of £250 sponsorship each and many of their family, friends, colleagues, patients, and industry have been very generously donating to enable the cyclists to achieve their target, so thank you to you all.

Thank you also to all the local companies in the area for their support, whether in the form of raffle prizes, or sustenance for the cyclists during the day, without your generosity they could not have done it.

A special thank you also to Market Harborough Medical Centre  particularly Dr Bishop, Dr Blake, Trina Finch & Kathy Coleman who put together their own cycling team this year and joined us in the event. A huge thank you goes out to all their patients, colleagues, family and friends who so generously supported them all.

A civic reception was hosted by the new Mayor of Hunstanton; Cllr James Johnson who greeted the cycling team on their arrival into Hunstanton.
